Kayara, the long-awaited Peruvian animated movie about a little girl in the Inca Empire whose dream is to become the first woman “chasqui” (a Peru ancient mailman who ran to deliver the messages), is ready to its world release in 2025.

The animated movie from Tunche Films, by director César Zelada, has been made in co-production with Spain and promises to take the public on a fascinating journey through ancient Peruvian culture, exploring themes of courage, identity and legacy.

The film tells the story of Kayara, a 16-year-old athlete who defies the rules of her time by becoming the first woman to join the legendary Inca messengers, the chasquis. Facing obstacles and overcoming challenges, Kayara becomes a heroine who protects her land and the legacy of her people, while the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors occurs.

Kayara is the latest achievement of Tunche Films, the Peruvian studio that in 2022 won the prestigious Platinum Award for Best Animation Film in Latin America with its film Ainbo: La Guerrera del Amazonas. (Ainbo: the Amazonian warrior).

Like Ainbo, now the animated movie Kayara has achieved great sales success in almost all international markets, ensuring a global release that will show the Peruvian culture to audiences around the world.

“With Kayara, we seek not only to entertain, but also to show the world the valuable legacy of the Incas and the richness of Peruvian culture,” said César Zelada.

“The story of Kayara is a metaphor for the struggle for identity, courage and respect for our roots, something that all Peruvians can feel proud to share with the world”, he added.

The premiere of Kayara is an opportunity to learn about the history of a legendary empire from the eyes of a brave young woman, in a film that combines cutting-edge animation with a narrative deeply connected to our cultural identity. Kayara is a story of Peruvian courage and pride that will thrill the entire world.
