Agents from the Fiscal and Tourism Police in Cusco located and arrested the alleged perpetrator of the hammer attack on the iconic Twelve-Angled Stone, located on Hatunrumiyoc Passage, the historic site of the Inca Roca Palace in the southern Andean city's historic center.

The arrest took place on Tuesday around 11:00 a.m. in the traditional San Blas neighborhood.

The suspect, identified as Gabriel Mariano Roysi Malanio, 30, from Lima, was swiftly detained, handcuffed, and taken to the Criminal Investigation Division (Divincri) in the Santiago district.

During his transfer, Roysi Malanio refused to make any statements.

However, a team from the Fiscal Police, along with representatives from the Public Ministry, is conducting the necessary legal proceedings.

In the coming hours, he will be taken to the Institute of Legal Medicine for examinations, as required by law.

At the time of his arrest, the alleged perpetrator was wearing the same clothing he had on when he committed the attack in the early hours: a blue jacket, black vest, black pants, and a black backpack.

According to records, authorities indicated that he may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Jorge Moya Coaguila, head of Cusco's Directorate of Culture, indicated that this serious offense carries a sentence of six years of effective imprisonment. He also confirmed that a formal complaint has been filed with the National Police and the Public Ministry.
