Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Desilu Leon highlighted that the country's interior regions generated over US$50 billion in export revenues from January to October 2024.

The high-ranking official said Peru's total exports in the aforementioned period grew by 14.5% exceeding US$60 billion.

"It is also important to highlight the figures currently presented by regions, in terms of exports, because a large part of what we currently see as achievements in our exports comes from regions," Leon underlined on December 4.

"So far, more than US$50 billion has been generated in regions due to exports from various parts of the country. This means a 14.3% increase in exports from regions compared to the same period in 2023," she explained.

In this regard, the Cabinet member highlighted that 18 regions are reporting growth in their shipments abroad.

"The regions that have grown the most in terms of exports during this period include, for example, Puno region, which has seen over 100% growth in exports; Ucayali region, with 105%; and Huanuco region, with 161% growth in exports compared to the same period last year," Leon detailed.

"Amazonas region registers over 81%, and there are many other regions that have grown significantly, such as Ancash, Ica, La Libertad, Moquegua, Tacna, Cajamarca, Pasco, Junin, Arequipa, Loreto, Ayacucho, San Martin, Lambayeque, and Madre de Dios, all of which have reported significant growth in their exports," she added.

Similarly, the minister underscored that Ica remains the leading region for exporting non-traditional and non-mining energy products, while La Libertad is the main agricultural export region, and Piura leads in fishery product exports.

In this regard, she expressed her sector's commitment to continue fostering policies that the Government has been promoting in favor of making the economy grow through exports, while also focusing on micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
