on Thursday stated that justice cannot be a privilege of a few, but rather a fundamental right that supports democracy and guarantees a society without excesses.
These remarks were made during her speech at the anniversary ceremony of the Public Defender's Office at the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, where some defenders were also recognized for their work.
"Justice cannot be a privilege reserved for a few, but rather a fundamental right that underpins democracy and guarantees a society free from excesses, ensuring that there is no subjugation based on political ideology, origin, social status, or economic situation," she stated.
The top official indicated that throughout its 29 years of existence, the Public Defender's Office has been the voice of those who are often not heard, the hope of those seeking justice, and the protection of those who need it most.
"Today, we pay tribute to this institution and its public defenders who, with a deep sense of professionalism, work tirelessly to guarantee the right to (legal) defense for Peruvians in vulnerable situations," she said.
Mrs. Boluarte explained that public defenders operate nationwide and that they not only offer legal expertise but also show empathy toward the people they serve and seek to help resolve their problems.
"That is the job of the public defender, and the result is finding joy after a challenging journey. That is why there are hugs and a commitment to continue supporting this institution from the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights," she added.
