Peru's top official recognized Gonzalez Urrutia's leadership, as well as his courage and bravery in all his actions deployed internationally in favor of democracy in his country, Venezuela, and to promote the protection of human rights and respect for the freedoms of his fellow citizens.
Similarly, the Head of State reiterated that the invitation extended at the appropriate time to visit Peru still stands and that a mutually convenient date will be arranged.
The conversation highlighted the support of the Peruvian people and Government for the leadership of Edmundo Gonzalez and Maria Corina Machado for freedom and in safeguarding the popular will expressed by Venezuelan citizens in the elections dated July 28, 2024.
The Peruvian Government reaffirmed its willingness to ensuring that the new government to be formed in Venezuela has the legitimacy and legality of the popular vote.
The Head of State reaffirmed Peru's commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and human rights as fundamental principles of its foreign policy. Therefore, it does not recognize the results of the 2024 elections, as announced by the electoral authority, since Venezuelan laws were violated and people's legitimate will was disregarded.
