During a recognition ceremony organized by Congress' Chairmanship,
is a compelling testament to the immense potential Peru can achieve when all its institutions work in unity and with determination.
At the protocol ceremony, Congress Chairman Eduardo Salhuana handed over the Lima Declaration to the Foreign Affairs minister.
It was signed within the framework of the APEC Ciudadano Legislativo 2024 (Legislative APEC for the People 2024) —an event whose main objective was to strengthen ties among parliaments of the region, exchange experiences, and foster a legislative agenda focused on economic development and attracting investments.
In this regard, the Cabinet member said this instrument will strengthen the legislative frameworks on key issues that are being worked on within the APEC forum, such as trade facilitation, elimination of non-tariff barriers, economic empowerment of women and vulnerable groups, as well as innovation and digital economy, among other issues.
As part of this ceremony, the Parliament chairman presented the Medal and Diploma of Honor of the Congress of the Republic to Minister Schialer for his extraordinary work and leadership in the conduct of Peru's foreign policy during the APEC 2024 Presidency.
Meanwhile, Congress' First Vice-Chair Patricia Juarez and Foreign Affairs Commission Chairwoman, Auristela Obando, presented the Medal and Diploma of Honor for their outstanding work to APEC Peru 2024 Senior Officials' Meetings (SOM) Chair, Ambassador Carlos Vasquez; and to APEC Peru 2024 Presidency Working Group Chairman, Carlos Chavez-Taffur.
Foreign Affairs Commission
Minister Schialer presented the results of APEC Leaders' Week to Congress' Foreign Affairs Commission.
He underscored that Peru's international image has been strengthened and the high representatives of economies, mostly heads of state and government, have congratulated Peru for its hospitality, thematic proposal, conduct of the debate, and the excellent organization of the forum's events.
This is in addition to the organization of the APEC CEO Summit, chaired by the Peruvian Foreign Trade Society (ComexPeru), in which approximately 1,200 senior executives and investors from the Asia-Pacific region participated.
Minister Schialer detailed President Dina Boluarte's bilateral agenda, including the state visits by the President of China and the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, as well as the official visits from the Presidents of the Republic of Korea, Indonesia, Viet Nam, along with the Prime Ministers of Japan and Indonesia.
Likewise, bilateral meetings were held with the Presidents of the United States, Chile, and Thailand, as well as the Prime Ministers of Canada, Singapore, and Australia, along with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
"The APEC 2024 Presidency is a turning point of utmost importance for Peru's foreign policy, as it coincides with other processes and projects being developed by the country," Minister Schialer expressed.
