Alberto Borea Odria officially assumed office as judge of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACtHR) for the 2025-2030 term, during a ceremony held in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Previously, the Peruvian jurist took the oath of office in front of IACtHR Chair, Judge Nancy Hernandez.

"I swear to God that I will exercise my duties as a judge with honesty, independence, and impartiality, and that I will keep the secrecy of all deliberations," Borea stated.

Meanwhile, the Peruvian Mission to the Organization of American States (OAS) congratulated the jurist on this important achievement.

Similarly, it expressed confidence that he will perform duties in accordance with the American Convention on Human Rights, while highlighting that he will raise the name of Peru high.

During the 54th OAS General Assembly, held in Paraguay last year, Borea was elected as judge for the 2025-2030 term.

His professional career, commitment to the defense of democratic values, and contribution to the promotion of human rights were highlighted at that time.

Along with Borea, Diego Moreno (Paraguay) and Ricardo Perez (Uruguay) were also elected as judges to fill the three vacancies available on the IACtHR.

The IACtHR on Monday inaugurated the Inter-American Judicial Year 2025, with the participation of Organization of American States (OAS) Secretary-General, Luis Almagro.
