The Permanent Commission of Congress authorized the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, to leave the national territory from January 20 to 24, 2025 to attend the World Economic Forum, which will be held in Switzerland.

The draft legislative resolution granting such authorization to the Head of State was approved with 16 in favor, 10 against and one abstention.

Previously, in accordance with Article 129 of the Constitution, Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer appeared before the Permanent Commission to explain why is necessary the authorization for President Boluarte's trip.

In his presentation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs indicated that the participation of President Boluarte in this multilateral event is of utmost importance for the country at an economic, environmental and geopolitical level.

Before his presentation, Schialer said he was confident that the travel permit would be approved, as it will greatly improve Peru's image, and he recalled that it is an absolute power of Congress.

In statements to the press, he indicated that it has not been decided which ministers would accompany the head of state and that for the moment only he would go, but that the delegation could be expanded with other heads of key sectors.

"It is a very high forum of an economic, financial nature, therefore it would not be surprising that within the framework of their obligations, of their responsibilities, for example, the Minister of Economy and Finance could also travel to be present," said Elmer Schialer.

He also indicated that he was able to verify on his last trip to Washington D.C. (United States) that Peru is viewed very favorably despite what the polls indicate regarding the level of approval of the Executive and affirmed that these are only "photographs of the moment."
