The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte reaffirmed Peru's commitment to scientific research and national sovereignty during her participation in the arrival ceremony of the Polar Oceanographic Vessel B.A.P. Carrasco, following the successful conclusion of the 31st Peruvian Scientific Campaign to Antarctica (Antar XXXI).

"Our sincere congratulations to you for once again having raised the name of Peru high in the coldest continent on Earth. With this expedition, Peru reaffirms its commitment to the White Continent and has consolidated its presence in this important region as part of our national Antarctic policy," she stated.

The top official highlighted that this expedition has ensured the continuity of scientific research projects that Peru is developing in Antarctica, as well as the maintenance and improvement of the Peruvian scientific base Machu Picchu.

"For my government, scientific research is a priority as it contributes to national development and enhances Peru’s prestige internationally," she said.

"Antarctica is a continent of invaluable strategic, ecological, and economic importance, considered the last stronghold of 100% pure air on the planet," Mrs. Boluarte noted.

"For Peru, it is important to preserve its environment due to its connection to our climate. That is why we firmly support this expedition and acknowledge the efforts of our scientists, whose studies will provide significant knowledge and contribute to the global scientific community," she added.

The Head of State remarked that 35 years ago, when Peru began its participation as a consultative party to the Antarctic Treaty, it did so guided by the principles of peace and cooperation.

"Over these years, we have maintained an active presence in Antarctica by conducting scientific campaigns and promoting research, which reaffirms our commitment to the international community to keep the White Continent a zone of peace," she expressed.
