The President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, published an article in the Official Gazette El Peruano on Thursday, asserting that the Chancay megaport will be a true path to prosperity and will serve to "foster development between China and Peru, as well as between China and Latin America."

The Chinese President will be arriving in Peru to participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit and will later attend the G20 Leaders' Summit in Brazil.

The leader is also making an official visit to Peru, which, after Brazil, is the Latin American nation where the People's Republic of China invested the most money in 2023, according to official figures.

Likewise, Peru will sign an updated Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the Asian giant.

Within this framework, President Xi Jinping will inaugurate the Chancay megaport.

According to the article, "with the first phase of this project, the maritime travel time from Peru to China will be reduced to 23 days, saving over 20% in logistics costs and generating annual revenues of US$4.5 billion for Peru, along with more than 8,000 direct jobs.”

According to the Asia giant's President, Peru will be able to "establish a paradigm of multidimensional, diversified, and efficient connectivity that links the coast with the interior of the country."

"We must successfully complete the construction and operation of this port so that it becomes a true path to prosperity and fosters common development between China and Peru, as well as between China and Latin America," he added.

The infrastructure will enable Peru to receive large-scale vessels with a capacity of up to 24,000 containers. It aims to handle between 30% and 40% of the national cargo destined for the People's Republic of China and Southeast Asia during the initial years of operation.

The Chinese President noted in the article that Peru was one of the first countries in Latin America to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China.

He added that bilateral ties "have been steadily advancing, especially since the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2013."

He also emphasized that Chinese-Peruvian cooperation has yielded "fruitful results and tangible benefits for both of them."
