Peru: Judiciary initiates oral trial against former President Martin Vizcarra

The Judicial Branch on Monday initiated the oral trial against former President Martin Vizcarra for the Lomas de Ilo and Moquegua Hospital case.


The hearing started this morning and was attended by former President Vizcarra, accompanied by his defense attorney.

The former Head of State is accused of the alleged crime of passive bribery to the detriment of the Peruvian State.

This case corresponds to the period in which he served as regional governor of Moquegua (2011-2024).

He is accused of allegedly receiving bribes worth up to S/ 2.3 million (about US$613,000) in exchange for awarding the Lomas de Ilo and Moquegua Hospital Projects to the construction companies Obrainsa, ICCGSA, among others.

The Prosecutor's Office requests a 15-year prison sentence for Vizcarra in this case.
