As part of the
program, the international summit "Artificial Intelligence: Technological Challenges for Development" was inaugurated in the Peruvian capital, Lima, on Tuesday.
During the inauguration,
Ambassador Carlos Vasquez, 2024 Chair of APEC Senior Officials' Meetings (SOM), underscored that at the
Third Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM3), currently underway in Lima, dialogues and workshops are being promoted focused on addressing AI from different perspectives.
The two-day summit serves as a platform for exchange and collaboration, granting participants the opportunity to learn from technology leaders and explore the potential of AI for regional development.
This meeting brings together leading technology leaders and experts, including Nicolas Robinson Andrade from OpenAI, Alex Le Bienvenu from Microsoft, and Almudena Fernandez from UNDP. They discuss the impact of AI in key areas, such as democracy, economy, education, health, and the private sector.
Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.

Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, the Russian Federation, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam.
Together, they account for 62% of world's GDP, 48% of global trade in goods and services, plus 38% of the planet's population.
