Peruvian para-taekwondo athlete Angelica Espinoza won a gold medal in the K44 (-47kg) category at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games on Thursday, repeating her triumph from three years ago in Tokyo.

At the majestic Grand Palais, our representative clearly dominated Uzbek Ziyodakhon Isakova and defeated her 10-4 in the grand final.

Previously, she defeated Moroccan Naoual Laarif, Cameroonian Guileine Chemogne (28-9), and Iranian Maryam Abdollahpour (19-9).

In 2022, Espinoza was the recipient of Peru's Sports Laurels in the Rank of Grand Cross.

Her sporting career also includes a world runner-up position and two gold medals at the Parapan American Games.

Significant delegation

Team Peru arrived at the 2024 Paralympic Games with a delegation made up of 17 members (13 para-athletes and 4 assistant-guides).

This figure surpasses that of the Peruvian delegation at Tokyo 2020 Games, which included 11 para-athletes.

It also doubles the number of para-athletes (6) who participated in Rio 2016.

In the history of the Paralympic Games, Peru has won 10 medals, the most recent of which was received due to the performance of para-taekwondo athlete (-47kg) Angelica Espinoza in the current edition.
