at our diplomatic mission's "María Reiche" Room in Berlin.
Among the highlights of this event were a ceremonial knife, ceramics, figures known as 'Cuchimilco' and a historical document dating back to the 19th century, which had been offered at auction houses.
Similarly, he reaffirmed the Peruvian position, stressing that the protection and recovery of cultural heritage is part of our foreign policy and the construction of national identity.
The diplomat also called for
continued joint work and for the
effective implementation of the
1970 UNESCO Convention aimed at
protecting and
safeguarding world cultural heritage from
illicit trafficking.
The German delegation was represented by
Elmar Eich, Director of the Division for Multilateral Cultural Policy, European Union, UNESCO, Protection and Repatriation of Cultural Property at the
Federal Foreign Office;
Dr. Katharina Ribbe, a specialist lawyer at the aforementioned division; and
Denisse Bittner, on behalf of the Hesse State Office in Berlin.
Eich highlighted the event as an example of the joint work between Peruvian and German authorities in the fight against illicit trafficking of the aforementioned cultural assets and the protection of cultural heritage.
