Peru: FA Min participates in U.S. State Department Ministerial Meeting on Migration

Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer participated in the Ministerial Meeting, convened by the United States Department of State to address the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection, alongside Secretary Antony Blinken, as well as representatives from signatory countries and the United Nations System organizations.

During the event held in New York City on Wednesday, Minister Schialer underlined the challenge of Venezuelan migration and the Peruvian efforts that have been undertaken.

Likewise, the government official highlighted Peru's leadership of the Action Package to combat xenophobia and its co-leadership with Paraguay of the Action Package to standardize visas and travel documents.

The Peruvian diplomat also welcomed Secretary Blinken's announcement of a $600 million contribution for regional migration issues.

Minister Schialer noted that "the political will to achieve safe, orderly, and regular migration requires a financial effort to ensure its continuity."

Representatives from signatory countries of the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection, as well as from UN System organizations, also participated in the aforementioned meeting.
