Peruvian Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Desilu Leon will travel to the United Kingdom from November 2 to 7 to participate in the World Travel Market (WTM) international fair, where she will promote Peru as a tourist and filming destination.

According to Supreme Resolution No. 226-2024-PCM, published in the Official Gazette El Peruano on Tuesday, the ministerial trip was authorized for the stated purposes.

The regulation details that the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) and the World Travel Market invited Leon to participate in the 18th Edition of the WTM Minister Summit (WTM Ministers' Summit) to be held in London on November 6, 2024.

At the summit, tourism leaders will discuss key issues for the industry, the transformative potential of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in the future of travel and hospitality, addressing the ethical implications of their implementation.

The event will also provide ministers with a platform to explore the potential of AI as a driver of innovation and to contribute to sustainable tourism development.

It should be noted that the WTM is the globe's leading event for the travel industry, bringing together industry professionals annually to foster connections, close deals, and explore the latest trends in tourism.

Peru has been participating in this fair since 1993. In the 2024 edition, it will present a stand that features national companies such as tour operators, hotels, airlines, and transport companies, where gastronomic exhibitions and presentations on destinations within Peru will be held.

For the trip, a meeting between the director of the British Museum and the minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism is expected to identify areas of collaboration, as well as a working meeting with British representatives from the tourism industry.

While the Mincetur's head is abroad, Environment Minister Juan Carlos Castro will be in charge of her portfolio.
