The Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Angel Manero, highlighted today that 2024 has been a very productive year for Peruvian agriculture, and it has already exported fruits to China through the port of Chancay.

“It has been a very productive year for agriculture. We are planting the large infrastructure projects that require between one or two years of studies and the works begin in the second or third year,” he said on RPP news.

“Agriculture must be dynamized from the point of view of the markets and there we are talking about international markets. This year we have closed 21 health agreements so that our products enter 21 more countries, a record number in the history of Peru,” he added.

Angel Manero pointed out that in January of next year a memorandum of understanding will be signed with the Chinese government for the hydroelectric project “Pampas Verdes”, which will irrigate the fields of Nazca (Ica) and Caravelí (Arequipa).

“It will probably reach 300,000 hectares, 'Pampas Verdes' is large, and that is why we need the help of a government with tremendous capacity like China to carry out this project. We will take about a year and a half to do the studies, and the works to execute the project will begin in 2027,” he said.

The head of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) recalled the progress made in the Chavimochic III (La Libertad), Majes Siguas II (Arequipa) and Alto Piura projects.

“Irrigation projects are very important and for the mountains we have launched the 'Andenes' project, whose execution begins next year, with the objective of recovering 120,000 hectares of terraces throughout the Andean region,” he explained.

Chancay Port

Angel Manero highlighted that blueberries, avocados, grapes and citrus fruits have already been exported to China and the Asian continent through the Chancay port.

“Blueberries and avocados have already arrived in China in 21 days, when before they took 34 days. Grapes and some citrus fruits have also been sent,” he mentioned.
