Peru: President Boluarte highlights productive and results-oriented dialogue with Ecuador

President Dina Boluarte on Thursday stated that, at the XV Peru-Ecuador Ministerial Cabinet, there was a productive dialogue aimed at obtaining concrete results to prioritize the development and well-being of both countries' populations and to achieve new levels of collaboration and integration.

"The Presidential Declaration contains the main coincidences, guidelines, and commitments that we have agreed upon to prioritize in order to achieve new levels of collaboration and integration, based on cooperation in the fight against transnational organized crime, initiatives in the mining, energy, and environmental fields, as well as to continue advancing in border integration," she stated.

Accompanied by her Ecuadorian counterpart, Mrs. Boluarte said this Binational Cabinet prioritized political dialogue, as well as the frank exchange of criteria and proposals regarding the most important and relevant issues of the bilateral relationship, with the participation of State ministers from both nations.

One of the agreements adopted —she said— was the implementation of the Lima Action Plan, which includes issues such as transnational organized crime, measures for efficient and agile immigration control, against illegal mining, and productive linkages between mining industries from both countries.

Commitments were also reached on issued related to water and mining issues, energy-digital interconnection, and environmental care, among others.

"To sum up, we have underlined our commitment to sustainable development, strengthening cross-border transit and transportation, as well as to implementing projects and policies for development and social inclusion in the border zone," she indicated.

In economic matters, the top official said Peru underscored the importance of investments to foster both countries' sustained growth.

Similarly, Mrs. Boluarte emphasized the legal conditions and economic advantages offered by the country to attract foreign capital.

"We also agreed on the importance of strengthening technical and infrastructure capacity to enhance productivity in our countries and increase tourism flows on both sides of the border, which will help boost job creation and new economic opportunities," she stated.

The Head of State affirmed that initiatives were planned to strengthen cooperation and guarantee access to healthcare in the Napo River basin, with the aim of strengthening capacities in the civil service.

Likewise, Mrs. Boluarte reported on the signing of an agreement to promote employment for young people.

"It has been truly gratifying for me to confirm the deep friendship that unites Peru and Ecuador. President (Daniel) Noboa, I thank you for your presence alongside your wife and Cabinet. I reaffirm the Peruvian Government's commitment to further deepening dialogue and cooperation with Ecuador so as to build a common future with better opportunities and greater development," she expressed.

Lima Declaration

At the end of the Peru-Ecuador Binational Cabinet, both leaders signed the Lima Declaration, including 49 commitments, which summarizes the main coincidences and guidelines to continue deepening the bilateral relationship, as well as fostering development and integration between both nations.

Furthermore, the Labor ministers of Peru and Ecuador signed an agreement for the exchange of knowledge and practices regarding labor and youth employment promotion.

Following the signing ceremony, the Peru-Ecuador Presidential Meeting and XV Binational Cabinet came to an end.
