The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Wednesday stated that the Government is taking a fundamental step towards modernizing urban transportation in Lima Metropolitan Area and Callao region, with the progress of Metro Line 2 project.

"Today, we are taking a fundamental step towards modernizing urban transportation in Lima and Callao. The Government will continue to support the development of all of Peru, and one of these (initiatives) is the underground metro, which we have committed to continue advancing," she expressed.

The Head of State explained that her administration will not stop at achieving the goal of developing our homeland, "without pettiness or political calculations."

"It is one of the main objectives that we set ourselves, and with actions and projects like this, we continue to fulfill them and move forward. The arrival of the tunnel boring machine is a milestone in the construction of the first underground train in Peru, which the people of Lima and Callao need to move around the city," she stated.

Moreover, the top official explained that when Lima and Callao Metro Line 2 is fully operational, it will connect (Lima's eastern) Ate district with Callao (region) in just 45 minutes, "eliminating the long hours that used to be spent on this journey."

"This train will be the driving force of development in Lima and Callao, and will improve your quality of life. In coordination with the private sector, we will work tirelessly to complete this project. It is time for Peru to move in a fixed direction towards modernization," she pointed out.

The president also indicated that her administration is already on that path, since the economy is growing and Peruvians have a solid currency that is recognized in the region, just as the Government is building modern hospitals and schools.

"Therefore, our commitment is to the well-being of all Peruvians, to the homeland; I invite regional and local authorities, all Peruvians, to walk in unity and hand-in-hand with the truth and the law," she added.
