Stefano Peschiera on Wednesday entered the most brilliant history of Peruvian sports by winning a bronze medal at Paris 2024.

Thus, it becomes the fifth medal that Peru has won in the history of the Olympic Games and which had not been obtained since Barcelona 1992.

Peschiera's cry of triumph at the end of the Medal Race was echoed in every corner of Peru as everyone celebrated, since the 32-year drought of that blessed medal having eluded our country was over.

The 29-year-old Peruvian sailor will undoubtedly see his name written on the most successful pages of Peruvian sports, joining great figures such shooter Edwin Vasquez, who in the 50-meter pistol event at the 1948 London Games won the only Olympic gold medal for our country.

Also in that brilliant gallery is Francisco Boza, who won the silver medal in Olympic skeet shooting at the 1984 Los Angeles Games.

The volleyball team, led by Cecilia Tait and Gaby Perez del Solar, had to be included, as they won the silver medal at the Seoul 1988 Olympics.

Finally, shooting once again brought the country's third Olympic medal thanks to Juan Giha, who ranked second in the skeet event at the Barcelona 1992 Games and missed out on the gold by just one point.

Since then, many athletes had tried to match that achievement and claim the fifth Olympic medal without success, until Stefano Peschiera arrived.

At age 29, and with two previous Olympic performances behind him, he broke the curse at the Paris 2024 Games, bringing joy to an entire nation that now elevates him to the status of Olympic hero.
