Peru: Cusco named one of top 20 destinations for New Year's celebrations

00:09 | Cusco (Cusco region), Dec. 2.

The southern Andean city of Cusco has earned a distinguished spot among the top 20 global destinations for ringing in the New Year.

Another tradition in this highly recommended New Year's destination is to wear something yellow to attract luck and prosperity.

Visitors from across the globe gather here to welcome the New Year in an atmosphere charged with positive energy, traditions at the Main Square to offerings for Pachamama Inca's Mother Earth— in nearby rural communities.

At midnight, the crowd gathers at Plaza de Armas to take part in one of Cusco's most cherished rituals: walking counterclockwise around the square with a suitcase in hand, visualizing a year filled with travel, accomplishments, and adventures.

In the heart of Cusco, rural communities celebrate with a deep spiritual focus.

Families give thanks to Pachamama through offerings and rituals intended to bring health and prosperity. This is a more intimate and mystical celebration, providing a chance to connect with the essence of this ancient land.

The celebration continues at Cusco's bars and restaurants, where you can toast with a classic Chilcano or a Pisco sour Peru's iconic cocktails.

These spots offer a vibrant atmosphere, making them the perfect place to ring in the new year in style.

Cusco provides a meaningful and unforgettable way to welcome the new year, making it a must-visit destination during this festive season.
