Peru laments death of Iran's President in fatal accident

Peru —through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs— on Monday expressed condolences over the passing of Iranian President, Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, as a result of a helicopter accident, which also claimed the lives of other members of his entourage.

Also among the deceased was Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, who was also aboard the aircraft that crashed in a mountainous zone of Iran due to bad weather.

"Peru laments the death of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi; his Foreign Affairs Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian; and other members of his entourage in the fatal accident," the ministry expressed via X (formerly Twitter).

"It also expresses its deepest condolences to the Government and the Iranian people," the government agency added.

Various political leaders worldwide have lamented the death of Raisi.

Additionally, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has declared five days of national mourning due to the tragedy.
