"We estimate that if everything proceeds as in previous years, more than 100 Peruvians should be arriving in the coming weeks. That is the number of Peruvians set to be deported soon," the official told RPP Noticias on Tuesday.
The circumstances leading to the detention of Peruvian migrants in the U.S. include recently crossing the border, having a prior deportation order, or being caught in immigration raids, the ambassador stated.
Bravo explained that, following the pattern of recent years, two repatriation flights are carried out per month.
"We have started in February; there will be two flights, and the dates are coordinated with U.S. authorities," he specified.
Furthermore, the diplomat clarified that the last flight arriving in Peru with deported citizens was a military one, an exceptional case, as regular returns are carried out through two scheduled flights per month.
Bravo also addressed the case of a child whose mother will be expelled from the United States.
In this regard, he explained that
the Peruvian Consulate in Houston did not require a certificate of poverty to provide financial assistance for the minor's return to Peru, but rather a sworn statement to document that she was in a situation of extreme need.
He noted that the child's travel arrangements have already been secured, adding that she is expected to arrive in Peru on February 7.
