Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer led the Peruvian delegation at the Summit of the Future opening ceremony, held on Sunday within the framework of the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States.

The event —which takes place on September 22 and 23— consists of sessions and plenary meetings based on five main themes (Sustainable Development and Financing for Development; International Peace and Security; Science, Technology-Innovation, and Digital Cooperation; Youth and Future Generations; and Transforming Global Governance), as well as other topics related to the UN work, including human rights, gender equality, and the climate crisis.

The immediate outcome was a finalized version of a Pact for the Future, with a Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations in the annex, all of which were adopted by Member States during the Summit.

The Summit of the Future offers an opportunity to deliver on promises already issued, prepare the international community for the world to come, and restore trust.
