A total of 203 movable cultural assets, dating from the early intermediate period (220 BC-600 AD) to the viceregal era, were declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation for possessing historical, scientific, aesthetic, and social values, the Ministry of Culture reported.

Vice-Ministerial Resolution No. 000272-2024-VMPCIC/MC detailed that it involves 201 pre-Hispanic assets from various cultures (Salinar, Moche, Viru, Recuay, Vicus, Nasca, Chancay, Chimu, Wari, and Inca) and 2 assets from the viceregal era, in which the colonial pottery tradition stands out.

Among materials used, ceramics, organic materials, and lithic ones stand out, which enable us to learn more about their artisanal production —one of the main economic activities of that time and which carries traditions that persist to the present.

Testament to development

The items are also testament to the cultural, social, and technological development of the pre-Hispanic societies from Peru's coast and highlands.

They demonstrate the high level of knowledge of these cultures and present great potential for future research.

These items are valuable to the societies that produced them and acted as means of hierarchical expression or ideological transmission.

In turn, they contribute to strengthening the cultural identity of Peruvian citizens.

This declaration highlights the importance of preserving the tangible heritage of our traditions, which constitute a fundamental part of our history.
