Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea on Wednesday confirmed that Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Summit to be held in Lima this November. Within this framework, he will pay a State visit to Peru.

"The Vice-President has confirmed to me that the President of China (Xi Jinping) will be officially coming to the APEC summit meeting and also making a state visit," Gonzalez-Olaechea told Andina news agency.

Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.

The Foreign Affairs sector's head stated that China has always expressed interest in investing in all Peruvian sectors —an offer that is made to all countries worldwide.

Likewise, he mentioned that in recent years China went from being the fourth-largest investor in Peru to becoming number one in this comprehensive strategic partnership.

"The meeting with the Chinese Vice-President —which lasted twice as long as scheduled— was very fruitful because it confirmed to us that as a country we had the preference, so to speak, of China in Latin America, and that responds to (Peru's) macroeconomic conditions," he explained.

In addition, Minister Gonzalez-Olaechea indicated that the geopolitical and geostrategic location, with respect to other countries in the Pacific Ocean, is also important.
