Peru's FA Min attends Munich Security Conference opening, meets with dignitaries

Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer on Friday attended the inauguration of the 61st Munich Security Conference, the world's leading forum on international security policy.

At this event, key foreign policy players address global challenges such as transnational organized crime and the situation in Venezuela.


Within this framework, the Peruvian government official held a meeting with German State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Udo Philipp.

Minister Schialer highlighted the broad potential of bilateral relations in areas such as sustainable mining, renewable energy, and German investment in Peru's infrastructure sector.


In turn, the State Secretary confirmed his visit to Peru at the end of March for the inauguration of the new Jorge Chavez International Airport.


Furthermore, the Peruvian diplomat and Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulze underscored the importance of German cooperation in Peru, our main cooperation source in Europe, which has been supporting the South American country's national objectives for 61 years.

The two dignitaries agreed to intensify cooperation in areas of mutual interest.


Moreover, Minister Schialer thanked United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Executive Director Ghada Fathi Waly for supporting the "South American Ports Alliance" against drug trafficking.

He also invited her to visit Peru.

Lastly, both officials welcomed the upcoming technical meeting in Lima aimed at defining a roadmap.
