on Monday announced that the technical roundtable on mining formalization, which held a session earlier today, will be in effect for 60 calendar days.
Its members will meet again this Friday at 10:00 a.m. (local time), also at the Government Palace.
The high-ranking official indicated that this was one of the agreements reached at this morning's meeting.
The event was attended by President Dina Boluarte, authorities from various involved institutions, as well as leaders and representatives of the National Confederation of Small-Scale and Artisanal Mining of Peru (Confemin).
The Cabinet chief noted that, during the roundtable, it was concluded that this issue must be addressed in a consensual, democratic, and peaceful manner, as it involves aspects that have remained unresolved for years.
Likewise, the government's spokesman specified that the decisions were made in the presence of representatives of the associations and several members of their boards of directors, by consensus and unanimously.
"We have agreed that this technical roundtable will be extended for 60 calendar days starting today, and the first meeting will take place next Friday at 10:00 a.m., also here at the Government Palace," Arana told reporters.
He indicated that the agenda proposed by the Executive Branch focuses on three points: continuing the formalization processes currently underway, defending the rights of mining workers, and, finally, proposing new regulations that benefit all sectors involved and the citizenry as a whole.
"We, as the Government, welcome and commend the willingness to engage in dialogue, as it is the only mechanism through which democratic consensus can be reached and, above all, the only way to validly and effectively address the concerns of both the sector and the citizenry," Arana emphasized.
Moreover, the Prime Minister ruled out any bias or omission regarding the participants in the meeting.
He stated that, if necessary, the Public Ministry (Prosecutor's Office) will also be invited to join the technical roundtable, as well as anyone else willing to contribute to this effort.
