As is known, the Supreme Pontiff was born in Chicago and became a naturalized Peruvian citizen, with an important pastoral career in northern Peru.
The day of faith and celebration began with the screening of testimonies from Peruvians residing in Chicago, who shared their impressions about the election of the new pope.
The ceremony included the participation of the representative from the Consulate General of Peru in Chicago, along with various local authorities, who were welcomed by Cardinal Blase Cupich.
One of the most emotional moments of the day was the singing of Peru's National Anthem. It was performed by Peruvian tenor Luis Galvez, who is based in Chicago.
The National Anthem of the United States was also performed, reaffirming the binational character of the event.
Pope Leo XIV addressed the American people for the first time through the stadium's giant screen, delivering a message full of hope—especially for young people: “God is in your heart, and His love can heal; it can give hope.”
Afterwards, a Mass was celebrated, officiated by Cardinal Cupich.
The first reading was delivered by Peruvian Carmen Mejia, and the liturgy included hymns in English and Spanish.
The Mass also featured the active presence of the Peruvian community, as well as faithful from other Latin American countries, reflecting the diversity and unity of the Church in Chicago.
This event marked a significant moment of communion among cultures, religions, and nationalities, highlighting the ties between Peru and the United States within the context of the election of a pope with roots in both countries.
