The Government of the Republic of Peru and the Government of Japan announced a 2024-2033 Roadmap outlining 61 projects and
The agreement took place during the official visit of
Japan's Prime Minister, Shigeru Ishiba, to Peru. It reflects the shared vision of both nations for the future, establishing five priority pillars to guide their cooperation over the next 10 years.
"Today, we have approved the joint declaration to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Peru and Japan, accompanied by a roadmap that will guide our joint efforts over the next 10 years. This roadmap is organized into the following pillars: political-diplomatic, economic, bilateral cooperation, social and people-to-people exchanges, and security and defense," President Dina Boluarte stated during the
official ceremony held at the Lima-based Government Palace on Sunday.
According to the 2024-2033 Roadmap, both governments are committed to enhancing political dialogue and increasing high-level visits to address common challenges.
In the economic sector,
efforts will focus on expanding and deepening trade, tourism, and investment relations, with particular emphasis on key industries such as mining, agribusiness, fishing, infrastructure, and renewable energy.
Additionally, bilateral cooperation will be strengthened in areas of mutual interest, including gender equality, science and technology, climate change, environmental preservation, Antarctic research, aerospace development, and disaster prevention.
Cultural, social, academic, and sports exchanges between the populations of both countries will also be promoted, fostering people-to-people connections and citizen capacity-building.
In the context of defense and security, bilateral cooperation and exchanges in areas of mutual interest will be encouraged in alignment with the memorandum on defense cooperation and exchanges between both countries.
The implementation of these commitments will be overseen by a Working Group to be established by the Foreign Affairs Ministries of both nations.
The Roadmap will outline specific projects and commitments for each pillar to ensure their success and fulfillment.
"I thank all those present for placing special importance on the development of friendship and cooperation between Peru and Japan, and I invite you to directly contribute to building the beginning of a new chapter in 150 years of deep and mutually beneficial friendship for our peoples," the Head of State emphasized.
Moreover, the President highlighted that in 2023, Japan was Peru's sixth-largest trading partner globally and the sixth-largest destination for Peruvian exports. She also emphasized the ongoing renewal of relations between business leaders from both nations, who seek new business opportunities, significantly contributing to wealth generation for both countries.
"Last October, it was a pleasure to welcome the Peru-Japan Business Council to the Government Palace, following their fifteenth annual bilateral meeting. We are confident that the results will continue to deepen and diversify our economic ties," she underlined.
