Within the framework of the High-Level Week of the 79th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer held a meeting with the Secretary-General of said multilateral body, Antonio Guterres.

During this meeting on Friday, Ambassador Schialer reaffirmed Peru's commitment to the UN and expressed concern about irregularities in Venezuela's elections, whose results Peru does not recognize.

Likewise, the Peruvian diplomat conveyed the greetings from President Dina Boluarte and thanked the United Nations System for its assistance to Peru.

In turn, the UN representative reaffirmed the institution's commitment to the South American country, assuring that it will continue to provide assistance.

Similarly, he sent a special greeting to President Boluarte.

At this event, the ambassador expressed "Peru's concern about the irregularities that occurred before, during, and after the past Venezuelan electoral process."

He underlined that the refusal to present the electoral records makes it impossible for Peru to recognize the official results. This stance has been maintained by the Peruvian Government since the beginning of the crisis, he recalled.

Before meeting with Secretary Blinken, Minister Schialer presented Peru's greetings to U.S. President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden at the reception hosted by them, reaffirming the good diplomatic relations between the two countries.
