The
wake for the remains of former President Alberto Fujimori Fujimori is being held in the Nasca Room at the
Culture Ministry headquarters in Lima's San Borja district, where the coffin arrived this morning accompanied by his grown-up children and closest relatives.
Previously, the coffin was carried on shoulders from the home where Fujimori spent his last days battling cancer.
He was escorted by Keiko and Kenji Fujimori, others relatives, friends, supporters, and sympathizers.
Wake
The wake is held at the Culture Ministry's Nasca Room, where wreaths with condolences from various institutions and personalities arrived.
According to information provided by his daughter Keiko Fujimori, the wake will continue until September 14 at noon.
All those who wish to personally say goodbye to the founding leader of the Fujimori party are allowed to attend.
On Saturday, his remains will be transferred to Campo Fe Cemetery in Huachipa, where they will receive Christian burial.
Days of national mourning
The Executive Branch has declared three days of national mourning and granted him the funeral honors that correspond to a President of the Republic in office.
The
Government of President Dina Boluarte declared
three days of national mourning (September 12, 13, and 14) due to his passing and under the provisions of State and Regional Ceremonial regulations.
During these three days, the National Flag will be hoisted at half-mast at public buildings, military bases, Navy ships, police establishments, and other State-run agencies, both in Peru and in diplomatic-consular missions abroad.
Starting today, the Government Palace, the Congress of the Republic, and the Municipality of Lima have the national flag at half-mast in homage to Fujimori.
