The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, on Friday highlighted the Constitutional Court's strength, autonomy, and independence during the ceremony marking its 29th anniversary.

"On the 29th anniversary of the Constitutional Court, we rise to reiterate our firm defense of the rule of law and democracy —without fear and with the courage that stems from constitutional guarantees," she stated.

The Head of State emphasized that the Constitutional Court acts with autonomy and independence, —an essential condition for guaranteeing the balance among the powers of the State, as well as protecting citizens' fundamental rights, free from political and ideological interests.

Likewise, the top official stated that the Constitutional Court's strength lies in its impartiality, legal rigor, and commitment to the Constitution, thereby contributing to democracy.

"A vital institution for the functioning of the country, as it is the supreme interpreter of our Constitution, in addition to being the guarantor of our democratic order and the rule of law," she said.

In that context, the Head of State recalled the independence clearly and forcefully demonstrated by the Constitutional Court in its December 2022 pronouncement, when it rejected the coup d'état and the breakdown of constitutional order that was attempted in the country.

Today, the President said Peru is in a different situation, with a recovering economy on the path toward consolidation, thanks to the drive and work of fellow citizens, a stable democracy, and a country in order.

"And thanks also to the strength of institutions like the Constitutional Court, which fight for a democracy that allows us to live in order, in peace, and with tolerance," she stated.

The Head of State expressed her hope that the Constitutional Court will continue faithfully carrying out its role as guarantor of the fundamental freedoms of Peruvians, without distinctions.

"We call on our fellow citizens to stand united in respect for the Constitution and the legal framework, to reaffirm ourselves in our ideals of freedom and equality, as well as in the commitment to strengthen our democratic institutions," she pointed out.

The top official reiterated that Peru needs stability and unity to continue growing and reaffirmed her commitment to continue working for the country until July 28, 2026.
