World Tourism Day: 4.6 million tourists interested in mountain biking in Peru

11:30 | Lima, Sep. 27.

Some 4.6 million foreign tourists are interested in going mountain biking in Peru this and next year, according to Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA).

This was disclosed by PromPeru in the "Adventure Tourist Profile: Mountain Biker" featured in its online publication Turismo In.

"Adventure Tourist Profile: Mountain Biker" is an infographic publication aimed at identifying potential adventure vacationers interested in going mountain biking in Peru. To that end, 2,400 online interviews were conducted with tourists who made at least one international trip —for holiday, recreation or leisure purposes— and engaged in adventure activities over the last two years.

PromPeru entrusted the research to Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA). The assessed markets included: the United States, the UK, Australia, Brazil, France, and Germany, which are the largest sources of (trekking, surf, and mountain biking) tourists to Peru.

Brazil

According to ATTA, much of this potential demand comes from the Brazilian market, with 3 million tourists coming from said South American country.

77% of respondents expressed interest in going mountain biking in Peru in the next two years. Five out of ten were millennials (born between 1979 and 1994) with an average age of 39. Besides, 32% of Brazilian travelers live in Sao Paulo.

U.S.

On the other hand, the United States stands out among the long-distance markets with 1.2 million tourists. According to the profile of U.S. tourists, 62% of those polled said they are interested in going mountain biking in Peru in the coming two years.

Two out of five were millennials with an average age of 43. Besides, 14% of U.S. travelers live in California.

Europe

In the European markets (France, Germany and UK), the figure hit 220,000 travelers.

In the case of French tourists, the study shows that 68% of visitors are interested in going mountain biking in Peru in the next two years.

On the other hand, 55% of UK holidaymakers expressed the same interest. A similar figure is reflected in the German market.
