Peruvian economy up 2.22% in Sept 2019

Peru's economy increased 2.22% in September this year and added 122 months of positive evolution, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) announced on Friday.

According to INEI, national production grew 2.17% in the accumulated period from January to September, and 2.81% over the last 12 months (October 2018-September 2019).

"This result was determined by the increase in household consumption, reflected in higher retail sales (3.36%), the increase in consumer loans (13.10%), as well as in the import of non-durable consumer goods (10.47%)," it noted.

Also, the increase in non-traditional exports (14.02%) contributed to the expansion —among which the fishery, iron-steel, agricultural, chemical, and metal-mechanic products stood out.

Six sectors

The result of production in September 2019 (2.22%) was due to the favorable performance of most economic sectors, among which trade, construction, telecommunications, business services, manufacturing, as well as accommodation and restaurants stood out. They accounted for nearly 60% of the result.

However, the mining and hydrocarbons sector recorded an unfavorable performance.
