Peru's Foreign Trade Min: Pacific Alliance has resilience to cope with health crisis

09:48 | Bogota (Colombia), Jan. 26.

Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Roberto Sanchez has stressed the resilience shown by the Pacific Alliance to adapt and build initiatives in order to address the challenges of the health crisis for the benefit of citizens.

Remarks were made during the meetings of the Pacific Alliance Council of Ministers and Free Trade Commission held on Tuesday in Bogota, Colombia.

"Let us continue to strengthen this process because now, more than ever, we need to work together to face the challenges of the pandemic, as well as the challenges of the digitalization and fourth industrial revolution," the head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) said.

"We still have a lot to do to revive our economies and our trade," he added.

The Free Trade Commission —which comprises the Ministers of Foreign Trade of Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru— reached an agreement (Decision 13) that updates the Specific Requirements of Origin in line with the 2017 Harmonized System.

"This work is important since it will allow trade agents of the Pacific Alliance to have up-to-date information and regulatory certainty in the development of their commercial operations," Sanchez announced.

Likewise, other agreements were signed during the meeting that brought together Ministers of Foreign Trade and Foreign Affairs from Pacific Alliance countries.

The above-mentioned agreements include Decision 10, which approves the 2022 Cooperation Fund Work Plan; Decision 11, which turns the Innovation Technical Group into the Science, Technology, and Innovation Technical Group; and Decision 12, which approves the functions of the Technical Groups of the Pacific Alliance.
