Since the official start of the rainy season in December 2024, a total of 62 people have died, nine (9) remain missing, and 23,743 have been affected due to heavy rainfall impacting various regions of the country.
This was revealed by the latest report from the
National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci), which also specifies that
moderate to extreme rainfall has affected 103,791 people, while 11,861 others have had their livelihoods impacted.
Regarding fatalities, the report specifies that 14 people died as a result of lightning storms in Huancavelica and Cusco regions, while 13 others lost their lives in a riverboat accident in Puno region.
Damage to Infrastructure
Education: 7 classrooms destroyed, 26 declared uninhabitable, and 109 damaged.
Health: 27 healthcare facilities affected.
Roads: 323.05 km of local roads destroyed, while 2,537.14 km were damaged.
Urban roads: 17.54 km destroyed and 146.05 km affected.
Bridges: 61 pedestrian bridges destroyed, 103 damaged, 67 vehicular bridges destroyed, and 302 damaged.
Impact on Agriculture and Livestock
Crops: 1,955.11 hectares lost and 5,057.76 hectares damaged.
Livestock: 7,356 animals lost and 76,266 affected.
Most Affected Regions
According to Indeci, 3,136 emergency cases have been reported nationwide due to the rains.
The most affected regions are Cusco (467 emergency events), Ayacucho (335), Cajamarca (323), Huancavelica (300), and Huanuco (211).
