14:04 | Lima, Jul. 8.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday participated —virtually— in the 20th meeting of the Andean Presidential Council, along with counterparts Jeanine Añez (Bolivia), Ivan Duque (Colombia), and Lenin Moreno (Ecuador).

"The pandemic attacks the health of our peoples, their jobs, as well as the commercial exchange among our countries. Hence the importance of working together to revitalize and reactivate our economies, but safely," he expressed.

In addition, the Head of State called on concerted efforts to find a way to co-exist with the virus until the vaccine is made available, "which shall be mass produced to be distributed across the Andean region, especially among vulnerable populations and health workers."

Regarding the improvement of public health services, the statesman said that technical cooperation, as well as exchange of information and successful experiences, are imperative to mitigate the spread of the virus, which would strengthen regional health integration mechanisms.

"I call on the Andean Community General Secretariat to coordinate the Hipolito Unanue Agreement, the presentation of programs and measures to improve public health services, as agreed in the Presidential Declaration of Lima," he stated.

According to the Peruvian leader, the vision of the future involves a Community interconnected through its energy and communication networks, which will ensure free mobility of its citizens who will be able to study, work and access social security in any of its member countries.
