Peru President requests municipalities to execute more than 80% of budgets

18:02 | Lima, Jan. 15.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday stressed the importance of municipalities making an effort to execute more than 80% of their public investment budgets this year, with the aim of achieving development in their jurisdictions and closing social gaps.

The Head of State recalled that nearly S/20 billion (about US$6 billion) was allocated for such investments in 2019, but merely S/12 billion (about US$3.6 billion) was spent.

Thus, nearly S/8 billion (more than US$2.4 billion) was not implemented, which is not convenient for a country that has many needs, he said during a meeting with representatives of the Network of Urban and Rural Municipalities of Peru (Remurpe).

Thus, he added, more projects will be developed and —once the corresponding works are completed— the population will rely on better-quality services.

On this occasion, the President was joined by Prime Minister Vicente Zeballos, Economy-Finance Minister Maria Antonieta Alva, and Remurpe members.
