The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Sunday evening led the inauguration of the national stage of the 2022 School Sports and Parasports Games (JDEPA), which will bring together more than 1,200 schoolchildren from all regions across the country.

After two years of being on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2022 JDEPA is back to reinforce learning, develop physical education skills, and help students achieve a fuller school, personal, and civic life.

According to the official agenda, the official events began at around 6:00 p.m. with the arrival of the Head of State at the National Sports Village (Videna), where students will carry the torch and light the cauldron.

After that, school athletes from each region of the country marched in a parade. Each delegation featured a student, who wore the traditional costume of the region.

During the ceremony, the dignitary was accompanied by Education Minister Rosendo Serna Roman, as well as students, teachers, coaches, principals, as well as parents from public and private schools throughout the country.

The 2022 Sports and Parasports School Games, to be held from October 24 to 28, will see students aged 10-17 years old, who will compete in the highest-level events.

The 2022 edition will feature 1,268 students, male and female, including young schoolchildren with disabilities and from indigenous communities.

Likewise, the JDEPA will see the participation of 436 members of sports delegations, including coaches, delegates, and experts from different Regional Directorates for Education (DRE) at the national level.

The sports disciplines of the competition are: athletics, swimming, judo, chess, handball, table tennis, futsal, soccer, basketball, and volleyball.

The winners of this year's national stage will have the opportunity to represent the country at the South American School Games, which this year will take place in Brazil and will be organized by the South American Sports Council.
