Peru: President disagrees with request for revoking Kuczynski's house arrest

13:37 | Lima, Aug. 22.

President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday affirmed he does not agree with the Public Ministry's request to change the house arrest —currently in place against ex-President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (2016-2018)— to preventive detention.

The recent petition —submitted to Judge Jorge Chavez— indicated Kuczynski might have violated the rules of conduct, as he welcomed visitors at his home.

"The arguments of the Prosecutor's Office to revoke this house arrest do not justify it," the Head of State expressed in this sense.

Likewise, he reiterated his respect for the independence of powers, but indicated he does not agree with the request.

He went on to add his administration works permanently, pointing out the priorities are the population and improving Peruvian citizens' quality of life

Lastly, the President stated the Executive Branch is always willing to dialogue
