Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday reported that almost 3 million jobs have been created across the country in May and June this year through the implementation of Phases 1 and 2 of the Economic Reactivation Plan.
The Head of State remarked that much of the work was halted when economic activities came to a standstill at the beginning of the quarantine decreed in Mid-March to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition, he explained that —as of May— 2,200,000 people joined the workforce in Phase 1, 450,000 workers were
added in Phase 2, and 162,000 were employed during the
extension of Phase 2.
"Almost 3 million jobs have been incorporated into the economic system in May and June, this is basically the economic activity generated by the private sector," Mr. Vizcarra said.
According to the Peruvian leader, Economy and Finance Minister Maria Antonieta Alva has worked in close coordination with governors and mayors to set goals for the second half of the year.
Today, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.
Tuesday marks the 107th day of mandatory social isolation in Peru.
