The
Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) on Sunday said that so far it has coordinated the transfer of 889 tourists from Machu Picchu town to Ollantaytambo, together with Inca Rail and PeruRail railway operators.
Domestic and foreign tourists were stranded in Cusco after Alcamayo River overflew its banks early on Friday.
The entity, through the Sectoral Emergency Operations Center of the Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (COES-Mincetur), has reported the state of the affected hotels in the area.
According to the government agency, Susana Inn, Casa Andina, and Ferre Machu Picchu lodges were flooded with mud and stones.
The infrastructure of the Inka Terra Hotel also suffered damages in its restaurant area.
Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Roberto Sanchez pointed out that ensuring the tourist flow is a priority for the sector.
Landslide
A large-scale landslide was registered on Friday morning in Machu Picchu Town district, leaving several homes affected, 2 pedestrian bridges collapsed, as well as the interruption of Ollantaytambo-Machu Picchu railway services.
In remarks to Andina news agency, District Mayor Darwin Baca reported that Alccamayo River overflowed its banks at around 5:45 a.m. (local time), dragging along stones and mud up to Machu Picchu train station platform.
