The local and tourist train service on the Ollantaytambo-Machu Picchu route resumed on Monday morning after a massive landslide that occurred last night at km 102,800, thus affecting the railroad.
The Civil Defense office in
Machu Picchu confirmed the reopening of such stretch various hours later, once clean-up works were completed.
According to railway operator Peru Rail, local trains on the
Ollantaytambo-
Machu Picchu route were delayed one hour due to monitoring actions.
Likewise, tourist trains departing a few minutes later did so without major inconveniences. All departure times returned to normal thru 9:00 AM.
A landslide and train derailment occurred on Sunday evening in Cedrobamba during the 6:30 PM service.
Peruvian rail firm Ferrocarril Transandino, or Fetransa, confirmed clean-up works were completed this morning. Nevertheless, monitoring efforts will continue.
