The resumption of tours through Inca Trail Route 5 will be at the same time of the
reopening of Machu Picchu —Peru's premier tourist attraction and one of the New 7 Wonders of the World— starting July 1, the Decentralized Culture Directorate (DDC) of Cusco has announced.
According to
DDC-Cusco, a maximum of 120 (domestic or foreign) tourists per day will be allowed to embark on this route during the first stage of reopening.
Visitors must travel in groups of 8 and will be urged to keep social distancing of at least two meters, as stipulated by the health protocol.
Tourist attractions
The Route 5 circuit starts in Chachabamba by Km 104 of Ollantaytambo-Machu Picchu railway.
It must be noted that the whole tour consists of a 4-6-hour hike.
Visitors must adhere to the safety protocols and guidelines set by the Ministry of Health (Minsa) in order to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
