The
Ministry of Defense on Tuesday affirmed that further support is being provided to the population affected by the 7.5 magnitude quake that shook the Amazonas region last Sunday.
Furthermore, he remarked that the
President of the Republic Pedro Castillo went to the epicenter of the quake a few hours after it struck so as to assess the situation and needs of the affected population.
"This is not a desk President; he is where the events take place," Carrasco emphasized.
In addition, the minister reiterated that the current Government will work at full capacity and will concentrate all its efforts to cope with this difficult time for the people of Amazonas and other affected regions.
The seismic event occurred at 05:52 a.m. (local time) at a depth of 131 km and its epicenter was located 98 km east of the town of Santa Maria de Nieva, in Nieva district (Condorcanqui province), near the border with Ecuador.
In addition, due to its large magnitude, it was also felt in Peruvian capital Lima and various cities across the country.
