Peru: Economy up 3.53% in Aug 2024, accumulated five consecutive expansion months

The Peruvian economy grew 3.53% in August 2024 compared to the same month last year, and accumulated five consecutive months of expansion, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) announced on Tuesday.

According to the INEI, national production was driven by the positive performance of 11 economic sectors.

The National Production technical report also indicated that economic activity grew by 2.88% between January and August 2024.

In the annualized period (September 2023-August 2024), productive activity registered a 1.69% rise.

The Peruvian economy grew by 5.38% in April, 5.15% in May, 0.21% in June, and 4.47% in July.

Besides, it expanded during seven of the last eight months between January and August.

The following sectors registered positive performances: Mining and Hydrocarbons (+8.87%); Manufacturing (+2.20%); Electricity, Gas, and Water (+2.08%); Construction (+4.14%); Trade (+2.86%); Transportation, Storage, and Messaging (+6.28%); Accommodation and Restaurants (+7.53%); Telecommunications and Other Information Services (+0.13%); Services Provided to Companies (+4.27%); and Government Services (+4.02%).

Meanwhile, sectors such as Farming (-2.29%); Fishing (-27.78%); and Finance-Insurance (-1.24%) registered negative results.
