Peru develops guide to facilitate safe entry of food products into U.S.

14:32 | Lima, Aug. 15.

Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) on Wednesday published a guide to facilitate Peruvian products' entry into the United States, in case they contain food additives.

As is known, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is taking very strict measures to control imports into the North American country.

One of the requirements for food entry into the U.S. is to be classified as GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) substance.

Therefore, Mincetur created the "Guide to GRAS Substance Recognition in the United States," which provides Peru's exporters and potential exporters with an overview of procedures and formats required to obtain such designation.

Its download is free of charge and can be found on Mincetur's website or through this link.

"Once GRAS status is obtained, Peruvian products will increase their competitiveness in the U.S. market, thus promoting Peruvian firms' internationalization and prioritizing the non-traditional sector," Mincetur pointed out.
