In total, 4,614 citizens born abroad have been granted the Peruvian citizenship by the
National Superintendence of Migrations.
Those emotional naturalization ceremonies have been held at the Peruvian Nationality Hall, located at the Breña district's branch in the Peruvian capital Lima, where the ex-foreigners swore loyalty to the national flag, the Constitution, and Peruvian laws.
The new Peruvians complied with strict requirements and the procedures set forth in the migration legislation in order to receive their Peruvian citizenship certificate, which allows them to later process the ID card application, as well as exercise their constitutional rights and duties.
Since the Peruvian Nationality Hall's establishment in December 2016, the new Peruvian nationals participate in a naturalization ceremony, in which they recount their arrival in Peru, their dreams, and their personal aspirations.
Joined by their relatives, the new Peruvians also highlight the development opportunities available in the country.
Out of the total number of naturalized citizens, 57.8% come from different countries across South America, 18.3% from Europe, 13.2% from Central America, 4.7% from Asia, 3.5% from North America, 2% from Africa; while the rest come from Oceania.
The ex-foreigners also come from remote countries like Afghanistan, Albania, Azerbaijan, Bosnia, Canada, China, South Korea, Ivory Coast, Philippines, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Greece, Kazakhstan, Mozambique, Norway, Rwanda, Russia, Saint Lucia, Syria, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Yemen, among others.
Last Tuesday, a group of 15 foreigners from countries across three continents received Peruvian citizenship certificates, in a ceremony held on the occasion of National Holidays.
