Once again, Alexandra Grande has brought pride and joy to Peru after winning a gold medal in women’s under 61 kg kumite karate at
Lima 2019 Pan American Games on Saturday.
The 29-year-old karateka defeated her Venezuelan opponent Claudymar Garces 6-1 by yuko.
It must be noted Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra attended the award ceremony.
Local athletes' efforts have enabled Peru to claim
several medals on the same day.
This was Peru's 36th medal (11th gold) at the largest multi-sport event Lima has ever seen.
So far, Peru has claimed 37 medals, including gold (11), silver (7), and bronze (19).
